Wood rejoins Cubs, Baker already plans complete game

From the Strikethree.com Newsroom

LOS ANGELES, CA — In the next step in his return to the Cubs’ rotation, Kerry Wood was set to rejoin the team today, officials said. This will be good news to Cub fans, who can now return to chanting “magic fridge.” As a possible prelude to a rehab assignment, Wood is scheduled to throw in the bullpen prior to the team’s game against the Dodgers at Chavez Ravine, and then he will have his right arm re-encased in a titanium cast/dehumidifier/hyperbaric chamber.

“We’re in a hurry to have him, but we don’t want to do anything to set him back,” manager Dusty Baker said, as he scrawled “Wood” into the “starting pitcher” space of 30 lineup cards. The return of Wood, along with that of the also-disabled Mark Prior, should mark the end of the Chicago Tribune columnists’ “my week in the Cubs rotation” pieces.
